An assortment of Beatles memorabilia, including outfits worn by John Lennon and hand-written notes by Paul McCartney, will feature in a new digital auction. Lennon’s son, Julian Lennon, has announced the start of bidding for the items which will be sold as non-fungible tokens (NFT) as part of Lennon Connection: The NFT Collection.
Bidding is now open at Julien’s Auctions, the artist and philanthropist announced. Digital pieces being auctioned include John Lennon’s black cape worn for the film “Help!”; an Afghan coat seen in the 1967 film “Magical Mystery Tour”; three Gibson guitars John gave to Julian, and Paul McCartney’s handwritten notes for the song “Hey Jude.
As far as prices, the “Hey Jude” NFT is expected to fetch the biggest price, with an estimate of $50,000 to $70,000, while clothing item NFTs could go for $8,000 to $20,000; the three guitar NFTs are estimated to sell for $6,000 to $8,000 (a portion of each sale will be donated to the White Feather Foundation).
All of the original physical items will remain in Julian’s possession, however. “This NFT is a one of one edition of the physical item and does not include the physical item,” a disclaimer on the product pages reads.
Money raised during the auction, which closes Feb. 7, will benefit Julian’s White Feather Foundation, which supports a variety of environmental and humanitarian causes.
