Cadence Architects has unveiled the striking K-Home, a ferrocement residence in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, designed to capture expansive views of the surrounding cityscape and hills. Featuring a unique facade with “strategically scooped-out segments,” the home redefines traditional architectural boundaries.
A Vision Beyond Conventional Design
The distinctive facade of K-Home combines practicality and artistic flair. “The external envelope of the home was conceived in a way to redefine the conventional relationship between the users of the home and the views from site,” explained Smaran Mallesh, co-founder of Cadence Architects.
“The articulated openings not only create a new silhouette for the house but also carve out unconventional semi-open spaces forming intriguing three-dimensional spatial voids,” he added. These semi-open terraces on the upper floors blend seamlessly with the structure while offering dynamic spatial experiences.
Layout and Functional Design
Spread across 2,660 square feet (247 square metres) and three floors, K-Home’s layout is a harmonious mix of openness and functionality. Entry to the home begins through a gated pathway leading to concrete steps, culminating at the sheltered main entrance beneath the overhanging upper floor.
The ground floor boasts a double-height living area that flows into a dining room and terrace. Adjacent to this central space are a kitchen, utility area, and bedroom, all subtly integrated through discrete openings.
Elevated Elegance
A sleek metal and wooden staircase connects the ground floor to the first, where a lobby overlooks the living area below. Two en-suite bedrooms occupy either side of the plan, each opening to sheltered balconies via expansive glazed panels. The front-facing bedroom offers sweeping views through the large facade openings, emphasizing the home’s relationship with its surroundings.
On the second floor, a fourth bedroom joins a gym and a multi-purpose room. This level also features a sheltered terrace with built-in seating and lush greenery, serving as an oasis of tranquillity amidst scenic vistas.
A Testament to Architectural Ingenuity
The interiors of K-Home are a study in understated elegance, with wooden and marble flooring, neutral-toned walls, and thoughtful placement of openings that flood the spaces with natural light.
Established in Bengaluru in 2005 by Mallesh, Narendra Pirgal, and Vikram Rajasekaran, Cadence Architects continues to push the boundaries of contemporary design. K-Home exemplifies their ability to merge innovative forms with functional living spaces.
Expanding India’s Architectural Landscape
This project joins a growing list of unique Indian homes making headlines, including a Keralan residence that combines old-world charm with modern design and a compact adobe-facade home.
