The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has launched a new AED100 banknote, made of durable polymer material. This release reflects the UAE’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and financial excellence.

Design Reflects UAE’s Journey
This banknote is part of the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project. Its design blends cultural heritage with symbols of modern development.
- On the front, it features the Um Al Quwain National Fort, a well-known historic site.
- On the reverse side, it shows the Port of Fujairah and the Etihad Rail network. These symbols highlight the country’s role in trade and regional connectivity.
Enhanced Features for Durability and Security
The new note keeps the familiar red color tones, making it easy to recognize. However, it now includes advanced printing techniques and cutting-edge security features, such as:
- SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS
- KINEGRAM COLORS
- A multi-colour security chip
These features help prevent counterfeiting and increase user confidence.
Moreover, the polymer material makes the note more durable and eco-friendly, lasting more than twice as long as traditional paper notes.
Accessibility and Inclusiveness
Importantly, the banknote includes Braille symbols, helping visually impaired users identify the value with ease.
Availability and Integration
The new AED100 note will enter circulation today, March 24, 2025. It will co-exist with existing banknotes, both paper and polymer versions. Banks and exchange houses have been advised to update their machines to ensure smooth processing.
A Symbol of Progress
The CBUAE recently won the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at the High Security Printing EMEA conference for its AED500 and AED1000 notes. These awards underline the UAE’s leadership in currency design and technology.
CBUAE Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama said, “This banknote supports our vision for a sustainable future. It represents both our achievements and our cultural roots.” He added that the timing of the launch during Eid Al-Fitr celebrations makes it even more special.
