For its eighth iteration, Prada’s mobile private club visited Dubai this week. It featured a two-day members-only experience of modern art and culture.
The internationally renowned artist Damien Hirst converted a designated space at ICD Brookfield Place, one of the city’s newest structures created by Foster + Partners, in the center of the Dubai International Financial Centre neighborhood, for Prada Mode in Dubai.
One of the wealthiest contemporary artists, Hirst was born in Bristol, United Kingdom. In 2007, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, purchased Lullaby Spring, a three-meter steel cabinet filled with 6,136 pills, for $19.2 million, making Hirst the most expensive artist alive.
Dubai’s Prada Fashion following the iteration shown at Prada Mode Moscow the previous year, Hirst created a new version of Pharmacy. Originally intended to be a restaurant, Hirst also created the wallpaper, all the details, and the furniture.
After our successful cooperation in Moscow, Hirst commented, “I’m happy and honored to be invited by Miuccia Prada to recreate Pharmacy for Prada Mode in Dubai. ICD Brookfield Place is a challenging yet beautiful place, and I’m working quite hard to provide balance to the inside and exterior of the new structure. Once more, Prada has located a location that will serve as the ideal setting. I’m giddy with excitement to accomplish this! Since we always remember wonderful meals on wonderful evenings with wonderful people in wonderful places, I’ve always believed that excellent restaurants can be seen as art. In this way, pharmacy is unquestionably a kinetic artwork that functions best when filled with people and art existing and living.”
