Eiffel Tower
- The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, which was to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the French Revolution
- The French have a nickname for the tower: La Dame de Fer, “the Iron Lady.”
- 1,063 feet (324 meters) tall, including the antenna at the top. Without the antenna, it is 984 feet (300 m)
- It was the world’s tallest structure until the Chrysler Building was built in New York in 1930
- Welcomes almost 7 million visitors a year, making it the most visited monument that you have to pay for in the world
