The Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI) has opened its first graduate exhibition, as its first class of undergraduate students from 2018 prepare to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in design this summer. The products on display range from apparel for youngsters with tactile sensory impairments to virtual reality eyewear that provide anxious users with a relaxing digital vacation.
The institute was founded in conjunction with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Parsons School of Design and is housed in a 100,000-square-foot complex in Dubai’s Design area.
MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning designed the school’s curriculum, which includes design-focused courses as well as others in fashion, multimedia, strategy, management, and art.
The institute’s exhibition, which runs until June 5 in Building 7 at Design District 3, is presenting next-level projects by 32 senior students in advance of the class of 2022’s graduation ceremony.
“This graduate show is tribute to our students’ hard work and represents DIDI’s rich DNA for design-driven innovation,” said Hani Asfour, the institute’s dean. All of the student projects incorporate design, technology, and strategy in a fluid manner, merging visuality with digitization and business approaches.”
“DIDI is entirely compatible with the UAE’s recent educational reforms,” he continued. We are delighted to be a part of this shift as we prepare the next generation of changemakers by further empowering our youth as creative, autonomous thinkers and makers.
“At DIDI, our mission is simple: to prepare students for a world in which today’s jobs may no longer exist tomorrow.” However, if the graduate show is any indicator, our future is secure.
