Join Dr. Michaela Watrelot for a ten-week lecture series as she explores how art has defined and captured people’s realities throughout the ages, from the Renaissance to the Contemporary.
The ten-week programme, held at XVA Gallery, consists of ten art history lectures and one Christmas-themed lecture that cover the key elements of many art movements, the most significant artists, and their greatest works. Beginning on Wednesday, October 19, each lecture will last 75 minutes of instruction plus 15 minutes for questions and open discussion. Each session can be taken independently, picking what interests the individual, with drinks and refreshments provided upon arrival.
They shall examine each era’s artistic portrayal of its time in depth, beginning with the Renaissance. The lectures will examine the sources of each stream while concentrating on elements like the strength of light, perception, and form. It will help us learn more about the methods, significance, and evolution of painting in Europe. As the course progresses, and define the reasons why some movements change into new ones. For instance, the birth of Post-impressionism on the principles of impressionism, which claimed new methods, new ideals, and new perspectives to depict subject matter.
The evolution of the art scene and the factors that contributed to the emergence of these new school of thought on the basis of a chronology via Cubism and Abstract Impressionism will be examined. The focus of the artists’ emotional response and visual depictions will be the World Wars and the emergence of new scientific hypotheses.
