‘Solo Exhibition’ by André Butzer
Alserkaal Avenue – Carbon 12 – Warehouse 37
8 February 2024 – 30 March 2024
André Butzer, known for his iconic characters and vibrant language, stands at the forefront of painting, inspired by Matisse. His work, filled with deliberate brushstrokes, reflects lived experiences. Characters like the Friedens-Siemens and the Wanderer, reminiscent of “Disney figures painted by Munch,” emerge from bright backgrounds. Butzer’s art, guided by a “brainless vision of destiny,” serves as an antidote to societal divisions, uniting opposites and speaking to all. Rooted in introspection and investigation, his paintings explore basic humanity and its connection to art history, embodying a child-like innocence intertwined with millennia of inspiration.
