As part of the second iteration of the “Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert” festival, which is scheduled to take place in December, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) launched the Al Marmoom short-film competition, inviting talented filmmakers and amateurs to submit their works and present them to a global audience.

This competition aims to draw creative filmmakers and offer them a cutting-edge platform to hone their craft.

Shaikh Maktoum bin Marwan Al Maktoum, the project manager of the “Al Marmoom Festival” said, “Based on our vision of consolidating the emirate’s position as a global centre for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent, we are working at Dubai Culture according to a clear methodology that seeks to enhance the emirate’s cultural scene and advance its cultural and creative industries by supporting talents and innovators and providing an incubating environment.”

Anyone from the Arab globe who is 15 years of age or older may enter the competition. Before September 23rd, entries must be submitted through the competition’s URL. A panel of distinguished professionals in this industry will judge the competition, evaluate the submitted works, and choose the winning films. The winner will get a prize, and their films will be shown at the Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert festival in December.

Participants must submit original, previously unscreened short films that are under 30 minutes in length in order to participate. Their movies, which may fall into one of three genres (live action, animation, or a documentary), must be fully theirs.

A monetary prize of AED 50,000 will be awarded to the first-place finisher, AED 25,000 to the second-place finisher, and AED 15,000 to the third-place finisher. Additionally, each of them will get a memorial shield.
