Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has opened applications for the first Dubai Youth Performing Arts Festival. The initiative supports young talent in theatre, music, and folk arts, aligning with Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy. It also reinforces the Authority’s mission to grow the city’s cultural and creative industries.
The festival invites performers aged 15 to 35 to submit original works. These can be entered by individuals, licensed companies, or groups based in Dubai. Applications are open from 19 May to 19 July on the Dubai Culture website. Final selections will be made by a panel of experts.
A Stage for New Voices
This festival brings three major events together: the Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre, the Dubai Festival for Youth Music, and the Dubai Youth Folk Arts Festival. Each will showcase fresh creative work by local performers. Not only does this provide a public platform, but it also strengthens Dubai’s reputation as a centre for the arts.
Submissions must follow specific rules. All pieces should be original, contemporary, and not performed at previous festivals. They must meet UAE content standards and secure any needed local approvals. Furthermore, all performances must be live. Participants must also create their own sound, music, and direction.
Judging and Cultural Impact
A jury will review submissions based on key factors. These include visual quality, story clarity, and creative teamwork. Judges will also consider how well performances reflect youth issues and community themes. Strong originality and ethical content will be essential.
Dubai Culture sees the festival as a long-term investment in the city’s creative future. It supports the Authority’s goal of developing artistic talent and encouraging cultural exchange. By focusing on inclusion and innovation, the festival aims to inspire a new generation of artists. Ultimately, this initiative helps position Dubai as a leading creative hub both regionally and globally.
