In the heart of Dubai, visitors can fully experience South Korean culture thanks to a new display at the Mall of the Emirates. Korea: Until November 30 at the mall’s Art Centre, Cubically Imagined, a collaboration between the Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korean Cultural Centre in the UAE, will be on display.
The 20 different types of content in the free exhibition include a stage performance of BTS’s Permission to Dance on Stage—Las Vegas and a VR presentation of scenes from the acclaimed Korean film Parasite, which won four Oscars in 2020, including Best Picture.
A nine-meter-high waterfall in motion and Mount Geumgang, one of Korea’s most beautiful places, are just two of the festival’s eye-catching digital artworks.
At the inauguration on Wednesday, Jasper from the K-pop dance group The Pixies in Dubai stated, “The exhibition is one of a kind. Five songs were played during the group’s performance, including Shut Down by Blackpink and Hype Boy by NewJeans. Watching the BTS concert on screen while waving our light sticks and singing our favorite songs with them,” he continued, “was for us the highlight of the night.”
“We were quite happy. Spreading our love and passion for Korean culture and K-pop while performing and representing the K-pop dance community here in the UAE is always an honor.”
According to Jasper, the global enthusiasm for Korean culture known as the “Hallyu wave” has developed dramatically in the UAE over the past several years.
In addition to introducing many individuals to the vibrant and expanding world of K-pop, the numerous Korean and K-pop conventions, concerts, and exhibitions each year also pique their curiosity about the country and its culture.
