Eemaan Bano Rahman, the creative force behind the pseudonym ‘beygumbano‘, captivated art enthusiasts at World Art Dubai 2024 with her thought-provoking exploration of colonialism, capitalism, and power structures in her vibrant and whimsical works.

As curtains drew on one of the Middle East’s premier art retail events, World Art Dubai 2024 concluded a dynamic showcase featuring over 10,000 pieces from over 60 countries. Rahman, making her debut at the fair, left an indelible mark with her incisive commentary embedded within her visually arresting creations.

Speaking exclusively to Business Recorder, Eemaan Bano Rahman expressed her delight at the robust dialogues her artworks sparked among visitors, delving into themes ranging from colonialism’s legacies to capitalism’s pervasive influence on contemporary society. Her pieces, adorned with subversive colours and playful imagery, catalysed profound discussions around historical narratives and their enduring impact on global dynamics.

Rahman elucidated, “My art sparked great curiosity amongst visitors at World Art Dubai, who indulged in all sorts of conversations around power, capitalism, social hierarchies, colonialism, and its effects on the world today.” She noted with intrigue the diverse perspectives and observations from an international audience, underscoring the universal resonance of her thematic explorations.

Dubai, renowned as a melting pot of cultures and ideas, provided an ideal platform for Rahman to showcase her oeuvre to a global audience. She lauded the city’s vibrant art ecosystem, characterized by myriad fairs and festivals that foster dialogue and creativity among artists and enthusiasts alike.

Reflecting on her decision to debut at World Art Dubai, Rahman emphasized the allure of Dubai’s expansive market and its potential for artistic growth. “Dubai is a much larger market than Pakistan,” she remarked, citing the city’s burgeoning demand for art amidst its rapid socioeconomic development.

Rahman’s foray into the Middle East extends beyond exhibitions as she explores opportunities for collaboration and expansion within the region. With plans to participate in esteemed events like Dubai Design Week and Art Dubai, Rahman seeks to establish her presence further and engage with the region’s burgeoning art scene.

Her artistic evolution, marked by experimentation with diverse mediums and thematic explorations, reflects a commitment to innovation and growth. From embroidery to oil paint and 3D visual techniques, Rahman’s repertoire combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary sensibilities, offering a fresh perspective on subcontinental history through a modern lens.

Looking ahead, Rahman envisions her practice expanding into commercial interior design projects and large-scale installations, diversifying her product range to cater to diverse market segments. With recent collaborations with renowned establishments like Vista Alegre and Ambiance Hotels and Resorts, Rahman’s trajectory as a visual practitioner continues to ascend, fueled by a passion for creativity and a dedication to exploring the complexities of the human experience through art.
