This July, Elephant and Castle will host a brand-new three-day festival celebrating arts, culture, diversity, and talent, writes Jack Friend. Visitors will be able to enjoy street theatre, circus, dance, and art, as well as seminars run by local community art groups. The Urban Elephant festival will run from Friday, July 29th through Sunday, July 31st, and admission is free for anyone who wish to attend.
On the first day, children will be able to participate in art workshops hosted by local community groups at Castle Square. If you prefer music, you will not be disappointed, as attendees will be able to listen to Latin American music while listening to a DJ till the evening. The dancing programme Serenata Latina will also be available to guests.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a variety of activities in various locations throughout Elephant and Castle. Festivalgoers will be able to listen to live music and learn about dance by watching performances from a variety of genres, including Urban, African, Latino, and tap dancing.
Two local creatives, John Whelan, who is known for producing theatre and community arts programmed around London and Liverpool, and Mike Raffone, an experienced street performer, have arranged the event.
