Ferrari has unveiled the one-off SC40, a bespoke creation from its Special Projects Programme that blends the contemporary 296 GTB platform with a design tribute to the legendary F40 supercar. Built for a private client, the SC40 fuses nostalgic styling cues from the 1980s with state-of-the-art hybrid technology, resulting in a car that is both visually striking and technologically advanced.
“The car’s name pays tribute to the F40, the iconic Ferrari supercar launched in July 1987,” Ferrari stated. “The SC40 echoes its sharp, angular lines while integrating softer surface transitions for a modern, unmistakable identity.”
Hybrid Powertrain Delivers 819 Horsepower
Mechanically, the SC40 shares its powertrain with the 296 GTB, featuring a 120-degree 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine producing 654 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. A compact axial-flux electric motor, positioned between the engine and the eight-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission, boosts the total output to 819 horsepower. This hybrid setup ensures that the SC40 delivers blistering performance expected of a modern Ferrari coupé.
Every component of the drivetrain has been carefully engineered to balance power, efficiency, and handling, making the SC40 a seamless blend of retro inspiration and contemporary capability.
Design Blends F40 Heritage with Modern Craftsmanship
The SC40’s exterior captures the spirit of the F40 while integrating Ferrari’s modern styling philosophy. It features a long, dramatic nose, a high-level fixed rear wing, and open mesh rear fascia for engine cooling. Triangular carbon-fiber accents reinterpret classic NACA ducts, while the overall silhouette balances aggression with elegance.
Inside, the cabin showcases motorsport-inspired materials, including carbon-Kevlar, Charcoal Alcantara, and red technical fabric, combining luxury with functionality. A styling buck of the SC40 is now displayed at the Ferrari Museum, offering enthusiasts a rare glimpse of this singular, high-performance masterpiece.
The SC40 demonstrates Ferrari’s commitment to personalization, heritage, and cutting-edge technology, making it a standout example of how the brand fuses iconic design with modern engineering.
