The “Create Theatre” initiative, which was started by the Ministry of Culture and Youth, aims to improve dramatic arts in the nation and promote them as a cornerstone of the cultural and creative sector. The project will assist theater-related activities financially and logistically and foster an environment that will draw more talent to the industry and enable it to effectively contribute to the country’s economy.

The Ministry is eager to strengthen the UAE’s place on the map of the world’s innovation and culture, as evidenced by the financial grants totaling about AED 1 million that have been provided for the initiative. The program will assist associations and theater troupes, encourage young people and artists working in the theatre industry, and preserve the tradition of Emirati theater, which has been around since the 1950s. Theatre is still relevant today because performances bring attention to social issues and give expression to the hopes and aspirations of the current generation. It aids in increasing societal understanding of values and cultural norms.

Create Theatre is a component of the Ministry of Culture and Youth’s “Ibdaa” effort to assist diverse creative sectors in the nation, according to a statement from Noura Bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, Minister of Culture and Youth. “By supporting and keeping track of creators working in the sector, including artists, organizations, associations, and theater groups from various backgrounds and artistic schools, we hope to improve the local theatrical movement and help them realize their goals. We think it’s important to create a space where they can be creative. We are aware of how significant Emirati theatre is to Arab and global audiences. Due to the fact that we understand this, we have chosen to focus our efforts and provide a tangible contribution through the cash grant program.”

More than 200 artists who work in the theatre will gain from the effort, and it will also support more than 10 regional theatre companies. More than 12 regional and international touring productions will be able to introduce works of Emirati art. At least ten local institutions that are active in the field are to be revived, according to Minister Al Kaabi.

The Create Theatre initiative offers a special program made up of four different sorts of awards to assist associations and theatre companies in the nation in cultivating talent and engaging audiences both domestically and abroad. The awards will help the art form develop in a contemporary and sustainable way. In collaboration with Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Music and Arts, Create Theatre has debuted.
