July 30th of this year saw the one-of-a-kind wireless, noise canceling Beats Studio Buds drop, featuring the legendary graffiti artist Futura’s ‘atom’ motif.
The graffiti artist Futura (Leonard McGurr) hails from New York and made his name in the 1970s tagging subway cars. Futura is renowned for his futuristic, abstract designs that defined the city’s cultural environment in the 1980s.
For Futura, this is not his first rodeo with companies. Nike to Louis Vuitton has been to his design studio, Futura Laboratories. This team-up with Beats by Dre is right down that alley and makes sense for this legendary graffiti artist. This is his second time with Beats by Dre, as, in their first partnership, the ‘atom’ motif was embossed onto Solo HD headphones. This time, the glyph adorns an edition of wireless, noise-canceling earbuds for both Apple and Android devices with transparency mode, Class 1 Bluetooth, and up to eight hours of listening time.
“Music has always been a necessity in my creative space,” said Futura
To complement this launch of his Beats by Der earbuds Futura has created a playlist for Apple Music that pays homage to New York’s old-school street art scene.
The special-edition Beats Studio Buds are available for $149.99 from tomorrow, July 30 at 7 a.m. EST, via Futura Laboratories Online, End Clothing, and Beats’ WeChat store.
