In celebration of NYCxDesign, BD Barcelona has joined forces with CASA VALLE—founded by designer Giancarlo Valle and Jane Keltner de Valle—to reissue one of Antoni Gaudí’s most emblematic works: the Batlló Chair. Limited to just 50 pieces, this special edition honours the original 1904–1906 design while offering a bold, modern reinterpretation in a rich ebony stain.
Originally crafted for the dining room of Casa Batlló, the chair is a hallmark of Catalonia’s “Modernisme” movement and reflects the organic curvature and artistic whimsy characteristic of Gaudí’s oeuvre. The reissue retains the ergonomic sculpting and seamless joinery of the original, celebrating both form and function in a deeply expressive silhouette.
A Faithful Tribute to Modernisme’s Legacy
While the Batlló Chair’s roots lie in early 20th-century Barcelona, its relevance resonates today through this carefully considered revival. “Gaudí’s work and brand of modernism feels incredibly relevant today,” said CASA VALLE in a statement. “We wanted to retell this rich story in the context of what is happening now, and connect it to the energy and ideas coming out of New York and what could come next.”
Each chair in the reissue is handcrafted by artisans in Barcelona and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the Gaudí Cathedra. BD Barcelona ensures the piece is an exact replica of the original, extending the designer’s legacy into a new century while anchoring it in collectible design culture.
On View at CASA VALLE, NYC
The limited-edition Batlló Chairs are now on display at CASA VALLE’s gallery at 50 Lispenard Street, where they join other items from BD’s Gaudí Collection. The exhibit runs from May 15 to 21, offering design aficionados and collectors an exclusive opportunity to engage with Gaudí’s vision in a new light.
For acquisition inquiries, interested parties can contact BD Barcelona directly. With only 50 pieces available globally, the Batlló Chair reissue represents not only a tribute to a design master but a rare convergence of historical artistry and contemporary craftsmanship.
