Copenhagen-based Georg Jensen reintroduces Henning Koppel’s 1962 and 1975 pitcher designs, reflecting timeless artistry with contemporary finishes.
A Legacy Revisited
Georg Jensen has reissued two of Henning Koppel’s mid-century pitcher designs, reaffirming their enduring appeal more than half a century later. The new editions, Pitcher 02 and Pitcher 03, were originally conceived in 1962 and 1975. For the first time, these sculptural pieces are crafted in mirror-polished stainless steel, bringing fresh brilliance to their fluid silhouettes.
The reimagined pitchers undergo extensive hand-finishing and polishing, a process that emphasises their organic curves while contrasting the industrial strength of steel. The result is a liquid-like aesthetic that feels both rooted in Space Age modernism and strikingly contemporary. Despite their archival origins, the designs remain distinctly futuristic.
Koppel’s Experimental Approach
Henning Koppel, a sculptor by training, collaborated with Georg Jensen from 1945 to 1981. His creative method began with sketches and plaster prototypes before progressing to silver models. Known for experimenting with bold proportions, Koppel often refined designs through multiple iterations. This dedication to form and function reflected the spirit of the Georg Jensen House, where artists were encouraged to challenge material traditions and expand modern design vocabulary.
