Art Dubai, the region’s biggest art fair, is returning with 45 galleries from various countries and coinciding with the UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebrations for the country’s 50th anniversary.
Originally scheduled to take place between 17th–20th March at Hotel Madinat Jumeirah, Art Dubai has announced that the art fair will now open on 29th March at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The fair will run for six days from March 29 to April 3.
They are presenting an ambitious line-up of galleries from diverse geographies, inventive programming with safety protocols in place, new partners and a more artist-led approach that aims to bring communities together, further cultivate art engagement practices, and highlight art across the Global South
The new site will allow for better ventilation and safety measures. By holding this physical fair, Art Dubai intends to support the art community in these challenging times.
For gallerists who cannot travel, the fair is offering remote stands. Art Dubai will construct the booths and hang the works with the help of trained assistants, and cooperate between collectors at the fair and the gallery directors in their home cities so that information is exchanged.
In 2020, Art Dubai was one of the first to move online because of the coronavirus pandemic, and now, though in an amended form, it is one of the first fairs to resume operation in-person.
