American furniture innovator Herman Miller has partnered with acclaimed British architect John Pawson to introduce the Pawson Drift Sofa Group—a refined, minimalist seating collection that highlights form, function, and environmental responsibility. The range merges Pawson’s architectural purity with Herman Miller’s continued commitment to sustainable design.

“Like all my work, this sofa group is the outcome of a process of stripping right back to the point where one’s primary experience of space and objects is rooted in the quality of proportion, surface, and light,” said Pawson in an official release, describing the collection’s essentialist approach.

Minimalist Forms with a Japanese Influence

True to Pawson’s soft-modernist philosophy, the Pawson Drift collection consists of robust yet pared-down pieces. Featuring bold rectilinear frames, the design diverges from traditional Mid-Century roundness, evoking the understated simplicity of Japanese wooden furniture. The seating range includes a lounge chair, along with left- and right-arm chaise sectionals.

While visually minimal, the design delivers comfort and support suitable for contemporary living. A recessed platform and wrap-around structure enhance the floating, clean-lined silhouette, creating a tranquil presence in both residential and contract settings.

Sustainable Materials and Innovative Craftsmanship

The Pawson Drift collection integrates over 80% natural and plant-based components. Frames are crafted from solid Nortwood and offered in white oak or walnut finishes. Seating cushions feature a down feather jacket and utilise plant-derived latex instead of conventional petroleum-based foam, aligning with modern eco-conscious practices.

Herman Miller further enhances sustainability with Greenguard™ Gold Certified fabrics—Rowan, Beck, and Isa—helping reduce indoor air pollutants while maintaining refined texture and durability. This blend of material integrity and aesthetic clarity supports the brand’s growing focus on circularity and wellness.

Available Now for Residential and Contract Use

The Pawson Drift Sofa Group is available for purchase online via the Herman Miller web store and through MillerKnoll dealers for contract clientele. Balancing understated beauty and environmental innovation, this collaboration offers a timeless addition to design-conscious interiors.
