The IEF Creative Residency is an immersive program uniting artisans and designers to explore contemporary interpretations of palm tree heritage. Rooted in long-standing tradition yet guided by innovation, the residency bridges heritage and modern creativity to reimagine how palm-based materials can inspire today’s design landscape.

Over a 12-day residency, participants will engage in hands-on research, material experimentation, and collaborative creation. The program encourages open dialogue and cultural exchange, fostering collaboration across artistic disciplines. With a carefully selected cohort of six to eight participants — including four local and four international creators — the residency connects the worlds of art, architecture, fashion, and design. Through this exchange, it seeks to contribute to broader discussions on sustainability, craftsmanship, and cultural identity.

Program Goals

  • Cultural Exchange:
Collaborate with both local and international craftspeople to gain a deeper understanding of diverse traditions and evolving approaches to palm weaving.
  • Technique and Innovation:
Explore new weaving methods and reinterpret traditional techniques to create contemporary forms that honor and advance palm craftsmanship.
  • Creative Communication:
Strengthen skills in stakeholder engagement — from clients and collaborators to industry professionals — fostering dialogue that bridges creative practice and cultural storytelling.
