One of Dubai’s most well-known souqs, The Waterfront Market, is putting out a call for artists for its Murals and Art Competition.
The event, which is coming back for a fifth straight year in cooperation with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has served as a venue to highlight and honour regional and homegrown talents in the UAE.
Artists are urged to use their ideas to imaginatively express their vision of the city’s future using a subject that was inspired by Expo 2020 Dubai. Artists have a wide range of pictures and scenes to choose from when considering the scope of Expo 2020, which will connect the world and its many distinct cultures to one spot as well as the sense of oneness throughout the UAE.
The jury that will choose the winning artist includes Khalil Abdulwahid Hassan, director of the fine arts division of Dubai Culture, artist Maitha Almarri, senior marketing officer of Waterfront Market, and Lachlan Gyde, executive director — asset manager, Ithra Dubai.
Hassan remarked, “We at Dubai Culture continually promote and nurture local and UAE-based talent and draw creative people from around the world by providing them a platform to express their creativity to audiences worldwide.”
Before it is shown publicly in February, the winning mural will be available for viewing at the Waterfront Market. The submission deadline is November 10, and those who have been shortlisted will be notified in December. One of them will be chosen as the winner.
