Driven by the construction, refurbish and the rapid rise of booming real estate sectors, Saudi Arabia’s interior design and fitout market is witnessing a massive transformation and growth according to the latest findings in the INDEX Saudi Arabia, State of the Market 2023: The Business of Interiors report.
Released ahead of INDEX Saudi Arabia, which takes place on the 10th – 12th September at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Centre, the report revealed that the country’s giga-projects, including the Red Sea Project and QIDDIYA, along with new real estate sectors are creating a massive opportunity in the interiors industry and driving international and regional interior fit-out designers into the country.
Saudi Arabia and its construction and interior design services industry, according to the report, is poised and ready to migrate away from traditional models to become the fastest growing, richest and most sophisticated market in the world. An increase in the number of real estate projects and the rapid rise of new sectors including retail, the rise in new and flexible commercial workspace in the post-COVID era, medical, education, hospitality, and the ever-expanding fitout market that is expected to grow to USD 1.8 billion by 2027, are just a few of the factors predicted to drive the interiors market in the country over the next few years.
“With more than 5,200 construction projects worth over USD 800 billion currently ongoing in Saudi Arabia, the interior design market is primed and ready, especially with major regional and global players entering Riyadh,” said Elaine O’Connell, Vice President Design and Hospitality of dmg events, which organises INDEX Saudi Arabia.
“From the increase in construction activities, growth in demand from the commercial infrastructure sector, improvement in the standard of living, and the introduction of premium interior design services, it’s clear to see that there is a significant rise in demand for interior design fitouts in the Kingdom. And at this year’s INDEX Saudi Arabia, it’s something we really want to highlight, all while showcasing the Kingdom’s design evolution and what the landscape has to offer today,” she added.
With favourable government regulations, spending initiatives, significant investment and the explosive growth of young, urban and digitally savvy consumers, the Kingdom’s interiors market over the next five years is predicted to embrace sustainable and technological innovations rivalling global markets.
“Exciting times lie ahead for the interior design services and home décor market in the Kingdom and with the adoption of new and disruptive innovations, it will make it an important and lucrative move for international providers looking to enter,” added O’Connell.
Co-located with the Hotel & Hospitality Expo, and the Lighting Design & Technology Expo, INDEX Saudi Arabia is the only dedicated event for buyers to source furniture, furnishings, textiles, interiors, and art. This year’s event also promises nine different product sectors on the show floor including: furniture and furnishings; fitout services; workspace; kitchen and bathrooms; accessories, décor and homeware; art; textiles; surfaces and finishes; and bed and bedding.
The highly anticipated INDEX Design Talks returns this year on the show floor and will take place across the three days with the region’s leading architects, interior designers, fitout companies, and global experts. With thought leadership, panel discussion debates and trend-setting keynote addresses, this year’s INDEX Design Talks will cover topics ranging from luxury hospitality experiences for the Gen Z market, the role of design in cultural exchange, and tackle workspaces and how to design solutions for the modern workforce.
The event will also work with leading regional and global architects and young designers from universities to showcase jaw-dropping installations on the show floor, all inspired by sustainable practices.
