The Indian Railways has begun constructing ‘Digital Museums’ to highlight the country’s rich heritage, in a first for the country, as part of a comprehensive policy developed to promote the concept of Digital Museums across the country on Indian Railways.
To begin, digital museums on Indian Railways will be established at 22 of the country’s oldest and most prominent railway stations, including 11 in Uttar Pradesh. A dry-run of the concept was recently conducted at the railway stations of Jaipur, Katihar, Agra Cantonment, and Erode.
The railroads in Uttar Pradesh have chosen to build digital museums at Lucknow, Prayagraj, Etawaha, Vrindavan, Varanasi, Kanpur Central, Agra Cant, Gorakhpur, Rae Bareli Junction, Allahabad Chheoki, and Mathura Junction.
“The goal of establishing up the digital museum is to tell visitors about Indian Railway’s rich legacy through video-clippies at the entrance of the concerned on a giant LED Screen through the multimedia system,” a railway official familiar with the project explained.
Chhatrapati Shivaji railway terminus, Howrah, New Delhi, Chennai, Kharagpur, and other significant stations are scheduled to get digital museums in the near future. Howrah Railway Station, in West Bengal, is one of the country’s oldest, having opened in 1854.
At each digital museum, film clips on the oldest rail lines, historical oldest railway bridges, the first, largest, largest, and oldest railway stations, heritage trains, heritage locomotives, rarest photographs, and other archival items will be displayed.
