Issey Miyake’s menswear line, IM MEN, unveiled its Spring/Summer 2026 collection titled “Dancing Texture” at the Fondation Cartier in Paris. This season, the label draws deep inspiration from the work of Japanese ceramic artist Shoji Kamoda. Known for his bold surface treatments and sculptural forms, Kamoda’s artistic philosophy guides the visual and tactile storytelling of this collection.
The designers interpreted Kamoda’s richly layered ceramics into wearable form. Through fabric, shape, and process, they sought to echo his vision. The result is a poetic interplay between material and movement—expressed through advanced textile techniques that breathe life into the garments.
A Tribute in Texture and Innovation
Several key series define the collection:
- UROKOMON Series features scale-like patterns using a “bonding opal process.” This technique peels away layers to reveal intricate motifs that shift between curves and angles.
- Gintō Series mimics the luster of Kamoda’s silver-glazed pottery, applying silver foil to folded textiles.
- Kaiyu Series reflects contrasts found in plant ash-glazed ceramics by using pigment printing to create layered tonal effects.
- Engrave Series captures wave-like reliefs from Kamoda’s carved pieces using heat-sensitive, jacquard-woven fabrics to form 3D surfaces.
Each textile was developed to mirror Kamoda’s philosophy: that depth and beauty can emerge through careful material exploration.
Introducing ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT x ASICS
Marking a significant moment for the brand, the show also launched a new footwear initiative — ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT. Created in collaboration with ASICS SportStyle, the project blends the worlds of technology and artisanal design. The first shoe, titled “HYPER TAPING,” reimagines ASICS’ iconic side stripes. The design takes cues from athletic tape, wrapping around the foot to offer enhanced structure and support.
This sneaker is more than a style statement. It reflects Issey Miyake’s signature approach — transforming the relationship between body and material, while emphasizing freedom of movement.
IM MEN SS26 offers more than just fashion. It presents a celebration of artistic legacy and innovation — where ceramics become cloth, and clothing becomes a living extension of craftsmanship and cultural memory.
