Kelly Wearstler has launched a new curatorial platform called Side Hustle, and the initiative brings together practitioners who work across a wide range of creative fields. Since she has built a strong reputation in interior design, her move toward supporting other voices feels both natural and timely. The concept evolved from her earlier efforts in twenty twenty two, when she introduced a collaborative collection with several designers. As a result, Side Hustle now reflects a deeper commitment to elevating diverse talent.
A New Exhibition Series Exploring Material and Form
With this platform, Wearstler plans to curate exhibitions that highlight creators working in areas such as furniture, jewelry, video, and even automotive design. She explained her approach by saying, “My studio practice has long integrated work from across such a wide range of creative disciplines. It is this exploration that led to the birth of Side Hustle – a space for ideas to unfold beyond the logic of client or commission, working to present works that contribute to the ongoing evolution of design as a cultural practice.” Her first exhibition, titled Again Differently, took place inside a residence in Beverly Hills, and it featured ten practitioners. Visitors encountered works by Dozie Kanu, Joana Schneider, Mariko Makino, Nynke Koster, Sam Klemick, Sonia Gomes, Leonor Antunes, Karl Holmqvist, Kenny Beats, and Madeline Hollander. Each participant reshaped familiar materials in surprising ways, so timber appeared soft like fabric while pliable rubber looked solid and monumental.
Digital Expansion and Future Plans
The physical presentation also extends into a digital format on the Side Hustle Gallery website, which allows the exhibition to reach a wider audience. Furthermore, Wearstler intends to expand the platform into additional cities and into contexts that might surprise visitors. Anyone interested in viewing the current show can contact the team through the listed email address to arrange a visit.
