Korey Gulbrandson, a talented artist born in Portland, Oregon, in 1973, possesses a natural artistic flair that was recognized early on when he won a local drawing contest and was awarded a seven-foot toy-stuffed stocking. However, it was a fortuitous encounter with a cache of old oil paints that led Korey to discover his true calling in painting.

For the past two decades, Korey has made Portland his artistic home, where his work has garnered significant local popularity and a devoted following of patrons. His unique and self-taught style is a result of a continuous learning process, with each painting informing the next. Every piece of art begins with a handcrafted wood canvas, and from there, Korey’s artistic journey unfolds through the accumulation of layers, manipulation of wax, and experimentation with various mediums.

Using a torch and carving tools, Korey deftly scribes and removes layers, creating an exhilarating and unexpected interplay of texture and color. This distinctive technique breathes life into his art, capturing the viewer’s imagination and creating a visual experience that is both captivating and entrancing.

Through his art, Korey Gulbrandson invites us to explore the depths of his creative process and the world of texture and color he skillfully crafts on each canvas. His dedication to his craft and the evolution of his style make him a celebrated and respected figure in the Portland art community.
