The International Council of Museums (ICOM) General Conference 2022 was opened in Prague, Czech Republic, by Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and Member of the Dubai Council. Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, the UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Her Excellency Hala Badri, the Director General of Dubai Culture, along with representatives from the UAE’s cultural community, are accompanying Her Highness.
HH Sheikha Latifa led discussions about cultural exchange and urged knowledge sharing and cooperation during her talks with Czech officials and various ICOM members as leader of the UAE delegation attending the 26th ICOM General Conference.
In the run-up to Dubai hosting the ICOM General Conference in 2025, the visit to Prague underlines Dubai’s commitment to developing the emirate’s creative economy and its eagerness to position the city as a center for the creative and cultural industry. The emirate will play home to the famous international conference for the first time in the MENASA area.
ICOM is a prestigious international organization of museum experts dedicated to preserving and advancing both material and immaterial forms of cultural heritage. ICOM 2022, with the theme “The Power of Museums,” will take place in Prague from August 20 to 28. The 27th iteration of the ICOM General Conference, which takes place every three years, will be held in Dubai in 2025.
Muna Faisal AlGurg, CEO of the Culture and Heritage Sector, Mariam Al Afridi, Executive Director of the Chairperson’s Office, and Maryam Mudhaffar Ahli, Project Manager in the Museums Department, make up the UAE delegation from Dubai Culture that is taking part. Along with Rashad Bukhash and other ICOM-UAE members from the nation’s museum, the group also includes representatives from the ICOM chapter in the UAE.
