Leicester is putting itself on the map because of an award-winning festival that mixes artificial intelligence, art, and cutting-edge computer scientists.
Professor Tracy Harwood of De Montfort University Leicester’s Institute of Creative Technologies, who runs the Art AI Festival, has been invited to join a network of the UK’s leading science festivals.
The British Science Association manages the UK Science Festivals Network Association, which is funded by the UK Research and Innovation and the Wellcome Trust. It exists to promote science and assist festivals in attracting new audiences by displaying some of the most cutting-edge work currently being done.
The Art AI Festival will be able to cooperate with the network to grow, be a voice for science, have access to supported projects, and collaborate with other festivals to promote best practice as a result of membership. In 2018, the Art AI Festival debuted. Highcross, Phoenix Cinema, and Luba Elliott, an independent AI curator, are partners, and Arts Council England, Leicester City Council, Haymarket, LCB Depot, and De Montfort University are supporters. Alexander Mordvintsev, the inventor of Google’s DeepDream algorithm, which has become a crucial milestone in the development of creative uses of artificial intelligence, is one of the featured artists in the 2021 programme. Creative AI artworks and installations have been on display in Leicester will be on display until March 2022, with certain artworks also being displayed at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Festival’s Cities Tango installation is currently on display at LCB Depot, according to James Burkmar, Manager “LCB has intentionally rebranded itself as a creative industries center since 2016. However, this is not a one-man show; collaboration is essential. It was vital to beat a path to Tracy’s door as the key originator and enabler of the powerful Art AI Festival. Color, excitement, and amazing material with a worldwide reach are all provided by Art AI. We are fortunate to have it, and we will continue to find new ways to collaborate to make it better every day – for academia, businesses, and citizens.”
