Abu Dhabi is set to shine once again as the Manar Abu Dhabi light-based artwork exhibition returns, showcasing the emirate’s creativity, landscapes, and cultural heritage. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, the second edition will run from November 1, 2025, to January 4, 2026, across Al Ain, Jubail Island, Souq Al Mina, and the Al Qattara and Al Jimi Oases.

This year’s theme, “The Light Compass,” emphasizes light as both a guide and an artistic medium, blending modern technology with cultural traditions. The exhibition features 23 artworks by 15 Emirati and international artists, ranging from light sculptures and immersive projections to site-specific installations that explore light as a symbolic and unifying force.

Curatorial Team and Vision

The exhibition is curated by Artistic Director Khai Hori, alongside co-curators Alia Zaal Lootah, Munira Al Sayegh, and Mariam Alshehhi. Collaborating with artists from 10 countries, the team ensures a diverse showcase that spans global perspectives, cultural traditions, and innovative approaches to light art.

Key Locations and Highlights

  • Jubail Island: Hosting 15 installations amidst serene mangroves, highlights include EDEN by Pamela Poh, featuring steel structures and glass spheres, and UNFOLD by DRIFT, an interactive installation transforming visitor biometrics into flowers and sound.
  • Al Ain (Al Qattara Oasis): Featuring works by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, including TRANSLATION STREAM, which presents Emirati poetry as flowing letters, and PULSE CANOPY, a responsive light installation reflecting visitor heartbeats.
  • Souq Al Mina: Home to a large-scale illuminated sculpture by KAWS, showcasing his iconic COMPANION character and acting as the exhibition’s centerpiece.
  • Al Jimi Oasis: Debuting as a new venue, it features five installations, including CYCLE OF CIRCLES by Emirati artist Ammar Al Attar and GUIDING DRAPES by Abdulla Al Mulla, inspired by traditional Emirati wedding customs.

Global Collaboration and Innovation

Manar Abu Dhabi unites local and international artists, blending digital art, AI, and traditional craftsmanship. Participating artists include Ezequiel Pini, Christian Brinkmann, Kirsten Berg, and Emirati designer Khalid Shafar, whose SADU RED CARPET links traditional crafts with contemporary design.

A Platform for Creativity and Cultural Exchange

Manar Abu Dhabi highlights the intersection of art, technology, and nature, offering immersive experiences that foster cultural understanding and innovation. The exhibition demonstrates how light can transform spaces, create dialogue, and bridge cultural distances.
