Independent watchmaker HVILINA has unveiled a truly cosmic creation: the Universum Cosmographia, a 3D planetarium wristwatch that seamlessly blends ancient astronomical wisdom with modern horology. Designed in collaboration with Professor Richard Kerner, a renowned Sorbonne physicist and medieval cartography specialist, this unique timepiece invites wearers to literally map the cosmos on their wrist.
Limited to 500 pieces per colourway, the Universum Cosmographia is now available for pre-order, with official release set for November 2025.
A Universe of Detail on Your Wrist
Inspired by 9th-century celestial charts, the Universum Cosmographia features a three-dimensional solar system display, complete with floating miniature planets that appear suspended in zero gravity. The layered dial is enhanced with Guilloché engraving, creating a stunning depth effect that mimics orbital motion.
Housed in a stainless steel case, the watch includes a redesigned bezel and caseback, both sealed with sapphire crystal and rated for 50-meter water resistance. The case offers both durability and clarity, ensuring the intricacies of the cosmos remain visible from all angles.
Above the planetary display lies a rotating GMT disc, revealed through a sculpted aperture. This disc showcases a star map derived from historical celestial designs. Around the dial, Latin zodiac inscriptions rotate in a 24-hour cycle, using contrasting light and dark zones to illustrate day and night transitions.
Mechanical Precision Meets Mythical Design
At the heart of the Universum Cosmographia ticks the Miyota 9075 Premium automatic movement, offering GMT functionality with a 42-hour power reserve and daily accuracy of -10/+30 seconds. Its decorated rotor includes etchings of trans-Neptunian objects, such as the dwarf planet Haumea, reinforcing the astronomical theme from every angle.
The watch is available in four distinctive colourways, each offering its own interpretation of the cosmos. Owners can further customise their timepiece with upgrades such as a personalised serial number, a custom GMT disc featuring the wearer’s zodiac sign, and a leather strap option in addition to the standard quick-release rubber strap.
Limited Release With a Celestial Price Tag
Each version of the Universum Cosmographia is limited to just 500 pieces, making it as rare as it is conceptually rich. Priced at €400 EUR (approximately $461 USD), the watch is currently available for pre-order through HVILINA’s official webstore, with global shipping beginning in November 2025.
Bridging the mystical and the mechanical, HVILINA’s Universum Cosmographia stands as a rare example of horology driven by storytelling, academic rigour, and celestial romance. It offers not just a way to tell time, but a way to explore it—anchored in starlore, science, and style.
