Mercedes has introduced a unique livery for the W15, set to debut during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, replacing the team’s traditional silver with shades of green. This new design commemorates the 50th anniversary of PETRONAS, the team’s technical and title partner, with the company’s signature emerald green now prominent on the car’s front wing and sidepods.
As PETRONAS is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Mercedes chose to highlight this milestone as Formula 1 heads to the nearby Marina Bay Street Circuit. The special livery has received enthusiastic support from drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, both of whom are eager to race under the lights with the new design.
Celebrating a Milestone
“The livery looks incredible,” said Hamilton. “I can’t wait to see it on the car in the garage and then get behind the wheel on Friday. It’s a privilege to celebrate this milestone and our journey together at such an important race.”
Russell echoed this sentiment: “The design looks brilliant and is a fantastic tribute to such a milestone achievement. It’s great to recognise the importance of our relationship at the race closest to their home.”
Ongoing Celebrations in Kuala Lumpur
After the race, Team Principal Toto Wolff, along with Hamilton and Russell, will head to Kuala Lumpur to continue the celebrations. “Our partnership with PETRONAS is our longest-standing and still going strong, and for any company to reach its 50th anniversary is an incredible milestone,” Wolff stated. “This livery not only celebrates their 50th anniversary but also reflects PETRONAS’ significance in our team’s story and honors our journey together.”
The new livery has received positive feedback from both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who are eager to race with the special design under the lights in Singapore. Hamilton expressed his excitement, looking forward to seeing the livery on the car and driving it on Friday. He emphasized the honor of celebrating this milestone and the team’s journey together at such a significant event.
Russell echoed these sentiments, praising the design as a fitting tribute to a major achievement and highlighting the opportunity to recognize this important partnership at a race near their partner’s home base. Following the race weekend, Wolff, Hamilton, and Russell will head to Kuala Lumpur to continue the celebrations.
