The official torches for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games have been revealed, marking a key milestone in preparations for the event. Designed by the renowned Studio Carlo Ratti Associati for Eni and Versalis, the ‘Essential’ torches combine Italian design, cutting-edge technology, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
A Tribute to Italian Design and Sustainability
Two distinct versions of the torch have been created: a shimmering blue-green variant for the Olympic Games and a bronze-toned version for the Paralympics. Both designs feature an iridescent finish and are crafted in Italy using environmentally friendly materials. The torches incorporate aluminum, brass, and bio-based polymer, underscoring a dedication to sustainability and eco-conscious production.
The torches are fueled by bio-LPG derived from renewable waste, and each one is designed to be refilled up to ten times, minimizing the need for new production and reducing their environmental impact. This thoughtful design enhances the long-term sustainability of the event.
A Global Display and Iconic Legacy
The torches were presented in Milan and Osaka by celebrated athletes, including Stefania Belmondo and Bebe Vio. They will be on display at the Triennale Milano and Expo 2025 before the relay begins. After the Games, the Olympic torch will find its place in the permanent collection at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, becoming a lasting symbol of innovation, sustainability, and global unity.
