Sanjay Puri Architects has unveiled a bold and futuristic design for Nezo, a boutique in Mumbai showcasing emerging Indian fashion talent. The 1,800-square-foot showroom combines cobalt blue concrete floors, reflective chrome furniture, and creative installations to embody modernity and empowerment.
A Vision of Empowerment
The boutique was designed to reflect Nezo’s mission of uniting diverse Indian designers and empowering women through contemporary fashion. Lead architect Ayesha Puri Kanori explained:
“The showroom was envisioned as a dynamic and forward-thinking space that embodies boldness, vibrancy and empowerment.”
A curved chrome reception desk greets visitors, while an open layout encourages exploration. A central lounge anchors the space, inviting interaction with various collections.
Innovative Design Details
The store features custom clothing racks crafted from reflective chrome steel, resembling molten metal to symbolize Nezo’s diverse design ethos. The juxtaposition of organic and geometric forms, such as cobalt blue pedestals and tiled displays, mirrors the brand’s dual identity of femininity and strength.
Kanori highlighted the significance of the design’s bold colour palette:
“The bold use of blue throughout the space, a colour traditionally associated with masculinity, was an intentional statement – a testament to the shifting, female-driven future that Nezo champions.”
Mustard tones add warmth to the industrial aesthetic, with curtains, carpets, and sofa upholstery creating a balanced and inviting ambience.
Art Meets Functionality
Structural columns were transformed into functional and artistic elements. One column houses an installation of mustard-coloured yarn balls encased in glass, symbolizing textiles’ foundational role in fashion. A sculptural LED ceiling light flows through the showroom, mimicking the fluid lines of a sketch, further enhancing the futuristic appeal.
Kanori remarked:
“This showroom embodies a vision to showcase the future of Indian fashion and sets a new standard for retail spaces that are both dynamic and forward-thinking.”
