Nike has introduced the International Running Pack, a collection that merges the brand’s vintage running legacy with advanced performance technology. Featuring four models — Vaporfly 4, Alphafly 3, Pegasus 41, and Vomero 18 — the pack combines heritage-inspired design with modern Japanese styling. The launch coincides with Tokyo’s track and field championships and emphasizes Nike’s longstanding connection to Japan.
Lead designer Katsunobu Asayama explained the concept: “We wanted to meet Japanese runners’ appreciation for vintage styles by looking into our archive and applying some of our classic designs to modern Nike Running silhouettes — bringing that vintage look the community loves to our latest footwear innovations.” Alongside the shoes, the collection includes apparel that uses nostalgic color tones and bold half-tone graphics.
Iconic Inspiration in Modern Form
Each model draws from a piece of Nike history. The Vaporfly 4 channels the Pre Montreal racing spike, famously linked to Steve Prefontaine ahead of the 1976 Olympics. The Alphafly 3 takes cues from the Sting, a 1978 design known for its suede-and-nylon construction. Meanwhile, the Pegasus 41 nods to the Waffle Runner, and the Vomero 18 reflects the LD-1000. Although inspired by the 1970s, all four silhouettes feature cutting-edge technology, enhanced comfort, and a contemporary aesthetic. The direct printing technique applied to the Swoosh and graphics reinforces the modern twist on heritage elements.
Release Schedule and Availability
The International Running Pack will debut exclusively at the UNION RUNNING DEPT. BY NIKE in Tokyo on August 30. Following that, it launches across Japan on September 5 before releasing worldwide on September 10 via nike.com and select retailers.
