NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE has teamed up with BELOWGROUND to launch its first-ever Hong Kong pop-up, bringing the Tokyo-based label’s multidisciplinary design ethos into a physical retail environment.

Textile Without Boundaries

Founded in 2005 by Masako Noguchi and Takuma Sasaki, the brand (formerly known as NOMA t.d.) operates beyond the traditional confines of fashion. Instead, it treats textiles as a universal medium—applied across clothing, interiors, and art objects. This philosophy is central to the pop-up, which acts as a spatial translation of their globally influenced practice, incorporating techniques sourced from regions such as India and Europe.

Reworking the “Draw Your Garden” Motif

At the heart of the installation is the label’s signature “Draw your garden” pattern—a floral, bandana-inspired design that resists the conventional fashion cycle. Rather than retiring prints seasonally, Noguchi and Sasaki continuously reinterpret them through new materials, dyes, and colorways.

This evolving approach is embodied in a standout multi-layered textile piece showcased at the pop-up. Constructed like a quilt, it stitches together fragments from past collections, with organically bled dyes and visible handcraft emphasizing memory, time, and process over perfection.

Noguchi’s background in product and interior design—spanning Tokyo and London—shapes this expansive view of textiles. As she explains, the medium is inherently limitless, capable of extending into art, interiors, and even industrial applications.

Beyond Fashion: Objects and Material Dialogue

The pop-up extends beyond garments into a curated selection of lifestyle objects. Custom pillows and rare ceramic works—created in collaboration with a master ceramic artist—highlight the brand’s refusal to be confined to a single discipline.

These ceramics, produced only once every few years, mirror the same intentionality found in the textiles. By approaching clay as they would fabric, Noguchi and Sasaki maintain a consistent creative rhythm across mediums, reinforcing their commitment to longevity and thoughtful design.

A Slower Design Philosophy

Rejecting fast fashion’s cyclical churn, NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE emphasizes durability—both in material and concept. Their work is not tied to a specific geography or aesthetic tradition but instead reflects a broader, more universal artistic language shaped by global collaboration.

Open through April 19, the BELOWGROUND pop-up offers a rare opportunity to experience the brand’s fluid intersection of fashion, art, and craft—where textiles are not just worn, but lived with.
