Nominated for a TV BAFTA for a comedy show about a Muslim all-female punk band

The candidates for the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards and British Academy Television Craft Awards were revealed by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on Wednesday.

“We are Lady Parts,” a sitcom about an all-female Muslim punk band, received six nominations, four in the Craft category and two in the Television category.

The sitcom’s creator, writer, and director, Nida Manzoor, is up for Writer: Comedy and Emerging Talent: Fiction categories, while Singaporean actor Anjana Vasan, who plays lead guitarist Amina, is competing for Female Performance in a Comedy Program.

The show is also up for prizes in the categories of Scripted Comedy, Custom Design, and Scripted Casting.
