The Noor Riyadh Festival lit up the Saudi capital with an extraordinary display of art and technology, captivating audiences during its launch at the King Abdulaziz Historical Center. Tuesday’s event featured a dazzling drone show, turning Riyadh’s night sky into a spectacle of synchronized lights and creative expressions.
The festival’s theme this year, “Light Years Apart,” brings together works by over 60 artists, including 18 from Saudi Arabia and 43 international talents. Their art is spread across three iconic locations in Riyadh: the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, Wadi Hanifa, and Jax district.
Highlighting the festival’s goal, Khalid Al-Hazani, director of the Riyadh Art Program, stated that Noor Riyadh transforms the city into a vast open-air exhibition.
Nouf Al-Moneef, the festival director, emphasized the festival’s integration of heritage, nature, and modern creativity, saying:
“The most important thing in Noor Riyadh is accessibility for people. Noor Riyadh is under the umbrella of Riyadh Art, whose mission is to transform the city into a gallery without walls. Wherever you go and whatever locations or hubs that you go to, you find these spectacular art pieces.”
The event also serves to uplift Riyadh’s cultural and artistic standing globally. Artists from nations such as Japan, the UK, Spain, and South Korea contribute to this artistic dialogue.
The festival theme, inspired by the cosmic relationship between the Earth and the sky, reflects a vision of bridging traditional heritage with contemporary artistry. This sentiment resonates deeply with audiences, encouraging exploration and interaction with diverse artistic expressions.
Omani journalist Mohammed Al-Bahri praised the harmony of light and music showcased during the opening. He noted:
“In recent years, the Kingdom has witnessed cultural and artistic development, which has contributed to enhancing its position on the global art scene.”
Adding her perspective, Bahraini beautician Munirah Abdulrazaq shared:
“The Noor Riyadh Festival is a remarkable celebration of light and art, transforming Riyadh into a luminous canvas that bridges the gap between tradition and modernity.”
Running until December 14, Noor Riyadh symbolizes the Kingdom’s commitment to nurturing creativity, fostering cultural exchange, and solidifying its reputation as a global hub for contemporary and public art.
