Spanish contemporary artist Okuda San Miguel has unveiled Ancestral Futurism, his first major immersive exhibition, at W1 Curates on London’s Oxford Street. Running through August 5, the digital showcase transforms the public exhibition platform into a vibrant audiovisual environment, reinterpreting key works from the artist’s career through large-scale moving imagery.

The exhibition marks a significant moment in Okuda San Miguel’s practice as it translates his distinctive visual language into an immersive digital format. Moreover, the presentation brings together the artist’s signature geometric figures, hybrid creatures, vivid colour palette and recurring symbolic motifs, offering visitors a new way to engage with his work.

Digital environments reinterpret Okuda San Miguel’s artistic practice

Ancestral Futurism revisits works spanning Okuda San Miguel’s multidisciplinary career, tracing his development from graffiti and painting to sculpture, installation and digital art. Consequently, the exhibition highlights how his artistic vocabulary has evolved while maintaining its instantly recognisable aesthetic.

At the centre of the presentation is the concept of coexistence. The immersive environments combine diverse identities, cultures and visual traditions, while blending nature with technology, the ancient with the futuristic, and abstract forms with figurative imagery. As a result, the exhibition explores themes of cultural connection and transformation through a contemporary digital lens.

W1 Curates exhibition encourages slower engagement with digital art

Presented across the expansive digital screens of W1 Curates, the exhibition invites audiences to spend time with the artwork rather than consume it as fleeting digital content. Instead of replicating the fast-paced experience of online image culture, the installation encourages sustained viewing and reflection within a public urban setting.

By expanding his established visual language into immersive digital environments, Okuda San Miguel demonstrates how contemporary art can bridge physical and virtual experiences while remaining rooted in recurring themes of identity, symbolism and collective imagination.

Ancestral Futurism is on view at W1 Curates, Oxford Street, London, through August 5.
