OMEGA has introduced seven new Speedmaster Dark and Grey Side of the Moon models, commemorating Apollo 8’s historic lunar orbit. The release celebrates the pioneering spirit that carried OMEGA to the Moon while incorporating years of technical refinement in case construction and movement development.
Design and Technical Innovations
The collection features advanced ceramic construction, slimmer case profiles, and Master Chronometer calibers. A new beveled polished ceramic process enhances surface depth and brilliance, while revised case proportions retain the collection’s bold 44.25 mm presence with a slimmer feel. Liquidmetal™ applications on bezels and crowns improve durability and scratch resistance, and a two-layer ceramic dial with laser-brushed finishes increases optical complexity.
Highlights include a slimmer manual-winding Black Edition with Calibre 9908, a reworked Dark Side of the Moon with Calibre 9900 and Liquidmetal™ tachymeter, an all-black Black Edition Calibre 9900 with darkened movement components, and a commemorative Apollo 8 edition with a laser-ablated lunar surface and skeletonised grey dial showing the near side, while the caseback reveals the far side for a full lunar experience.
Straps and Availability
OMEGA updated the strap offerings with nylon straps now rubber-lined for comfort and new rubber straps featuring lunar surface patterns on the reverse.
