To mark its 50th anniversary, BEAMS has unveiled the reissue of the “JAPANORAK” in collaboration with Polo Ralph Lauren. Previously teased earlier this month, the announcement has already attracted strong attention from collectors. As a result, the release positions itself as both a commemorative product and a commercially strategic revival of a proven archive design.
Heritage design with updated construction
Originally launched in 2010, the Japan Anorak draws on references to 1930s winter sportswear. This reissue retains its defining elements, including the Japanese flag on the front pocket and heavy-duty metal hardware. At the same time, the garment introduces a smoother, more durable fabric to align with contemporary wear expectations. In addition, an internal co-branded tag reinforces the authenticity and historical significance of the partnership.
Pricing and release schedule
Alongside the outerwear, the collection includes a special-edition cotton chino cap featuring embroidered national flag motifs and branding. The anorak is priced at ¥141,900 JPY (approximately $920 USD), while the cap retails for ¥16,500 JPY (approximately $110 USD). The collection launches on January 31 at BEAMS Japan and will transition to an online release on February 2, ensuring broader market access shortly thereafter.
