The Arts Center at NYUAD’s special contemporary Arab cinema series, CinemaNa, kicked off the first in-person edition of Ramadaniyyat with The Arts Center at NYUAD’s special contemporary Arab cinema series.
Ramadaniyyat is a diversified, week-long schedule of events produced jointly by NYUAD’s three public-facing institutions: The Arts Center, The Art Gallery, and The Institute, and is available to the public until April 17. After the events of the week, a suhoor will be served on the East Plaza every night.
Head of the Arabic Language Center in Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the American University of Beirut and Senior Research Fellow at the Library of Arabic Literature, Bilal Orfali, will discuss His Excellency Ali bin Tamim’s personal experience with al-Mutannabi, considered one of the most influential Arab poets, readings of al-poetry by Mutannabi will be performed, as well as some of his books will be distributed.
Enjoy an evening of soothing rhythms and sounds in a musical conversation with global jazz, featuring Boom.Diwan Kuwait/UAE, led by guitarist, composer, and applied ethnomusicologist Ghazi Al-Mulaifi, with Nduduzo Makhathini, South Africa and Jean-Michel Pilc France/USA/Canada, in the spirit of Ramadan. The international collaboration emphasizes the importance of dialogue in fostering understanding, peace, and resolution.
The NYUAD Art Gallery is free and available on view till June 12. The Art Gallery is offering tours of the current exhibition, Parthenogenesis, and will be open from 2 to 10 p.m. during Ramadan.
