A solo exhibition of paintings by British musician Robbie Williams and his collaborator Ed Godrich will debut at Sotheby’s Dubai. The “Black and White Paintings II” show by Williams Godrich, which includes 15 never-before-seen monochrome paintings, will be on display from November 30 to December 16.
Williams and Godrich’s aesthetic is “deeply rooted in a nostalgia for the 1990s music scene: vibrant, euphoric, and pulsating with life,” as stated in a press release about their work.
The pair of artists first displayed their works in front of the general public in May 2022 at a Sotheby’s London show. A new body of work from the team that expands on the topics investigated in the original iteration will be displayed at Sotheby’s Dubai. All 15 paintings in the most recent exhibition are titled with well-known men’s names from the 1980s, continuing the trend started by the female names that adorned the previous exhibition.
Collectively, they believe that these are “the names that define the 1980s, an influential decade that has influenced our art.
“I hold a special place in my heart for Dubai, so it feels especially appropriate that I will be revealing my art here to end the year after spending the New Year’s there. Williams, who gave a New Year’s show at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai this year, said in a statement: “This show is the next step in sharing my and Ed’s creative vision with the world. I hope that the feelings of curiosity and positivity that fueled our art will resonate with everyone who comes to the exhibition.”
