Sasan Nasernia, an Iranian calligrapher will launch Calligraphic Confluence, a calligraphy exhibition with the Mestaria Gallery. The exhibition will run from October 8th until October 31st at Alserkal Avenue’s Mestaria Gallery.
The gallery specializes in works of Arabic, African and Asian roots which fit right into Nasernia’s modus operandi of using calligraphy as a means to express his Persian heritage. Using art, he pushes the boundaries of numerous converging themes and his passion for the ancient practice of Islamic calligraphy.
Visitors can look forward to being inspired by the thought-evoking works on canvasses filled with vivid colors and textures that are produced by reality and myth taking abstract shapes.
“In this collection, the style of Islamic Calligram meets another core part of my heritage and influence; the art of Persian miniature paintings and its pinnacle the ‘Book of Kings’ or ‘Shahnameh.’ by Ferdowsi,” explains Nasernia. “The stories in this epic book tell endless wars between the forces of good and evil and how heroes and villains struggled to take the rein of power over the land and its people.”
Born and raised in Tehran, Nasernia got his interest in writing from his father who cultivated his fascination with the aesthetics of calligraphy. He studied graphic design and fine arts specializing in digital typography and developed his creative interest to include a passion for music, history, religion, spirituality, politics, and philosophy at the Azad Art University in Tehran.
This deeper understanding of the world around him, allows Nasernia to incorporate a larger-than-life meaning into his art.
