The 18th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale will feature the participation of Saudi Arabia’s Architecture and Design Commission.
Sumayah Al Solaiman, the commission’s chairwoman, stated on Wednesday that the biennale would provide architects with a chance to come up with original ideas to enhance people’s lives.
The architect’s temperament compels him to continue seeking for solutions and innovations, so this edition of the biennale “seeks architectural solutions to modern social and human concerns,” she stated.
Al Solaiman referred to architecture as a foundational element of Saudi culture and stated that the nation’s pavilion would serve as a venue to display its talent and culture on a worldwide scale. As a result, the pavilion has requested applications for the biennale from Saudi Arabian architects, scholars, and creatives.
Since its inaugural appearance at the Venice Biennale in 2011, the National Pavilion of Saudi Arabia has welcomed a variety of architects and artists from all around the kingdom who work in a variety of mediums.
Along with 63 other nations, Saudi Arabia participated in the International Architecture Exhibition for the first time in 2018. The “Freespace” topic was concerned with the issue of space and its value within the context of urban settings.
Saudi Arabia participated in 2021 as well, focusing on the question of “How Will We Live Together?” and how individuals from various backgrounds might live in harmony in a post-pandemic society.
Next year’s biennale, with the theme “The Laboratory of the Future,” will run from May 20 to November 26.
