On Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s first fashion professional society was established. The society’s chairman of the board of directors is Loai Naseem, the founder of the Lomar chain.
The society is one of the professional organizations established as part of the Ministry of Culture’s nonprofit sector policy, which was approved in March 2021. The goal of the strategy is to create a broad system of nonprofit organizations in the Kingdom’s cultural sectors, including the development of 16 professional societies in 13 cultural sectors around the world.
According to Naseem, the organization strives to be at the forefront of the fashion industry in terms of creativity, excellence, and sustainability, as well as strengthening its development role in the Saudi economy and representing the country’s cultural character both locally and globally.
Among the society’s objectives are the development of professional practice, the improvement of employees’ future prospects through training, the strengthening of practitioner networks, and the support of talent.
“In my opinion, the most important thing is to create awareness of the sector’s cultural importance and worth,” Naseem added. The organization is looking forward to a variety of activities, including “training, mentoring, and empowering professionals and designers with the purpose of putting them on track,” according to Naseem, who was named Saudi Arabia’s most prominent entrepreneur by American Endeavor in 2012. Increased awareness of fashion in terms of quality, value, sustainability, and relevance, as well as economic growth, including the prospect of exporting “Made in Saudi Arabia” products, are among the expected positive effects on society.
