RIYADH: Osama Samara, a full-time nurse at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, has turned his lifelong passion for painting into a flourishing part-time career. After 15 years of honing his craft, Samara is now preparing to host his first solo exhibition in Riyadh (Saudi), showcasing his unique works that blend personal expression with artistic flair.
Samara’s journey began in 2009 when he sold his first painting—a depiction of a Dragon Ball Super Saiyan character commissioned by a friend. This early success ignited his love for art, leading him to participate in various local exhibitions and even train at the prestigious Venice Biennale through the Misk Art Foundation.
In 2018, Samara reached a significant milestone by selling his most expensive piece, “Une Femme Élégante,” for 31,000 Saudi Riyals ($8,266). Reflecting on this achievement, Samara said, “Good work pays off. Stay true to your vision and put in the effort. The rewards may come, but they require patience and perseverance.”
Despite his successes, balancing his nursing career with his passion for art has been challenging. “The plans for my gallery in Riyadh are set, but I wish I could also establish one in Jeddah. Unfortunately, the hustle of making time for that is overwhelming,” Samara told Arab News.
Samara credits his late father for nurturing his artistic talent. “My father was incredibly supportive; he once drew two palms and a boat on paper for me. That moment encouraged me greatly, and he took pride in my artistic pursuits.”
Painting serves as both a creative outlet and a potential source of secondary income for Samara, who often paints late into the night after long shifts at the hospital. His works have attracted clients from across the Gulf, and he continues to expand his reach.
As he prepares for his gallery event, Samara exemplifies how passion, dedication, and perseverance can lead to a fulfilling and successful career in the arts. Through his art, he not only shares his personal journey but also inspires others to connect with their emotions and pursue their dreams.
