Seiko is celebrating six decades of its iconic Prospex collection with the release of three special edition timepieces: the Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 60th Anniversary 600m Saturation Diver, the Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary, and the Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary. Each model pays tribute to Seiko’s pioneering contributions to dive watch technology while incorporating modern advancements.

Seiko’s journey in dive watchmaking began in 1965 after professional divers reported that watches often sustained damage at great depths. In response, the brand introduced Japan’s first-ever diver’s watch, featuring automatic movement and 150 meters of water resistance. This innovation laid the foundation for the Prospex series, which remains a benchmark in the industry.
Tribute to Seiko’s Diving Heritage
The Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary takes inspiration from the original 1965 Diver, known as the “62MAS.” Designed under the theme “The Great Wave,” it pays homage to Hokusai’s renowned woodblock print. Equipped with Seiko’s 6R55 automatic caliber, the watch offers a three-day power reserve and an enhanced 300-meter water resistance.
Similarly, the Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary features a unique dial pattern and an engraved caseback adorned with the iconic wave motif. This model honors Seiko’s 1968 Diver, the brand’s first high-beat dive watch with a one-piece case and 300-meter water resistance. Notably, it debuts a new short-pitch length bracelet with micro-adjustable clasps for a refined fit.
Advanced Engineering in the Marinemaster “Shinkai”
The Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 60th Anniversary 600m Saturation Diver represents Seiko’s latest technological leap in dive watches. Its name, meaning “deep sea” in Japanese, reflects its 600-meter water resistance and advanced construction. Inspired by the 1968 Diver, this model features a blue dial housed in a lightweight titanium case with a superhard scratch-resistant coating. It is powered by the high-performance 8L45 movement, crafted at the esteemed Shizukuishi Watch Studio.
With prices ranging from £1,270 – £4,130 GBP (approximately $1,637 – $5,323 USD), the Seiko Prospex 60th Anniversary Limited Edition models are available for pre-order and will officially launch in July.
