Seiko expands its Astron lineup with two GPS Solar Limited Editions, the SSH187J1 and SSJ039J1. Both models draw inspiration from the visual drama of a swirling spiral galaxy. Notably, the SSH187J1 introduces a newly developed embossed spiral-pattern dial designed to evoke “a mysterious galaxy of swirling stars.” Meanwhile, a dark turquoise surface with fine glitter mimics shifting cosmic light. Similarly, the SSJ039J1 follows the same concept and is positioned as one of two “new stars emerging from the darkness” in the 2026 Astron lineup. Additionally, both watches use all-black cases and bracelets with a scratch-resistant hard coating. As a result, the finish maintains a deep jet-black sheen that reinforces the celestial theme.
Technology
From a technical perspective, the SSH187J1 runs on Caliber 5X83. It delivers GPS time-zone adjustment, a 1/20-second chronograph, dual time, and a perpetual calendar accurate until February 2100. Moreover, a full charge provides a six-month power reserve and accuracy of ±15 seconds per month without GPS. In contrast, the SSJ039J1 focuses on GPS solar timekeeping to ensure precise global time without battery changes. Finally, both bracelets include a fine-adjustment clasp system to improve comfort and wearability.
Pricing and Availability
Looking ahead, deliveries start in January 2026. The SSH187J1 is limited to 1,500 examples and carries a €3,000 price tag, or about $3,526. Meanwhile, the SSJ039J1 retails for €2,500, roughly $2,938.
