Seiko has partnered with Kodansha and Initial D creator Shuichi Shigeno to launch a chronograph honoring the manga’s 30th anniversary. Inspired by the AE86 Sprinter Trueno driven by protagonist Takumi Fujiwara, the watch measures just under 40mm and comes in stainless steel. Its panda-style two-tone dial mirrors the car’s black-and-white paint scheme, while the “Fujiwara Tofu Shop” logo sits at 4 o’clock. Subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock recall dashboard gauges, and the 6 o’clock subdial carries a stylized “D” emblem, symbolizing both “drift” and “dream.”
Features for Fans and Collectors
Beyond aesthetics, the watch offers quartz movement accurate to ±15 seconds per month, a curved Hardlex crystal, and water resistance up to 10 bar. Lumibrite-coated hands and indices enhance night visibility, reminiscent of the series’ nighttime racing scenes. Each of the 1,995 numbered pieces — a reference to the manga’s 1995 debut — comes in a collector’s box styled after the AE86’s livery, with Initial D branding and an exclusive illustration card.
Release and Availability
Priced at ¥65,780 JPY (around $446 USD), the first production run sold out quickly. A second release is scheduled for January 2026, with pre-orders open through authorized retailers. This release not only commemorates an anime classic but also places a piece of street-racing culture directly on the wrists of fans worldwide.
